Originally a temple founded Hindus in Aceh, then destroyed after the entry and development of Islam. On the ruins of the temple, then built a mosque named Masjid Sultan Iskandar Muda Indrapuri by approximately the year 1607 to 1636. Now the mosque is still there in the form of traditional buildings are still preserved, and functioned as a place of worship.
Indrapuri is empire ever established by Hindus in Aceh. The origin of this kingdom begins sister's son Harsha that in the year 604 AD, fled from his kingdom to Aceh.
Harsha's sister's son who allegedly founded the kingdom and the greater the likelihood is Indrapuri now.
In addition to establishing kerajaana, Hindus also established a temple named Indrapuri, which means Kuta Queen. In addition, he also founded the Kingdom Indrapatra in Ladong, to the Port Malahayati.
Although the temple had been destroyed, and then built a mosque by Sultan Iskandar Muda, but the former temple still visible on the site around the mosque. According to Prof. H. Ali Hasjmy (alm), estimated the overall footprint / former temple is almost as large as the Borobudur temple in Central Java. The mosque is located in the land area of 33 875 meters, is located on the axis road between Banda Aceh and Medan, Indrapuri Market Village, district. Indrapuri, Kab. Aceh Besar, Aceh Province.
